As a child he heard 'he won't get old'.
As a teenager, he stood on stage in the audimax of the university – so that doctors could learn 'on him'.
As an adult, he had to hide the truth in order not to be dismissed.
... these are just a few of the experiences Nicola De Nittis had to make.
Experiences that did not help him with his greatest challenge: the rare disease Thalassemia. Never heard? A genetic defect. The main feature of the disease is that it destroys everything in the body and progresses daily.
Despite great progress in recent years, Thalassemia would only be curable by a bone marrow transplant from an almost perfectly matching sibling donor.
What did these experiences make of Nicolas?
· A resilience expert
· A book author
· A founder
· A BraveSpeaker
· A visionary whose energy never seems to end
But above all:
They make him someone who encourages others. Who never accepted this disease as such, because he „never got sick with it, but was born with it" – understood it as a part of himself that makes him strong.
The phases of fear, uncertainty and helplessness that are unimaginable for most of us have been met with even more ambition, courage and faith in ourselves. Who not only talks, but makes; who captivates others and gives them strength.
Who continues to work with all his strength to ensure that people with special conditions get one thing above all: understanding! And he knows that for these people – as for all other people – one thing is especially important: love!
